When you say "barbeque" in the South, people know you are talking about grilled beef or pork.

Up North and other places in the States "barbeque" simply means grilling outside or an outdoor party.

Well, now MissDixie..I dont know that I agree with ya here. Since I live in Texas and that makes me part of the South, I had to respond..Around here, if we say, "We're gonna bar-b-que later on this evenin..Yall wanna come over?"..It doesnt necessarily mean we are having beef or pork..It pretty much, literally means, "We gona fire up the pit later on..If ya got somethin ya wanna throw on it, bring it on..If not, a side of sumpthin will work...and if ya cant do that..just bring some beer!"..LOL!
We were up north for about 18 months a few years ago with my hubby's line of work..and what I found, now mind you..this is just me..Those folks in the part we were in called their dang pits or grills a bar-b-que!
Funny how here in Texas TO BAR-B-QUE is cooking on a pit or grill..BUT, if a friend calls and says, "Let's go get some bar-b-que"..Any self respecting Texans knows that means goin to the local cooking joint and piggin out on sliced or chopped beef, ribs, smoked sausage links, chicken, some good ole Pinto beans, mustard potato salad, and pickles and onions on the side for it all!!!
Anyways, dont mean any disrespect..but I guess even here in the South, we have our "regional" differences!
Ya'll have a good 'un! Looks like I need to join this wiki to get my name on here with the reply..but dang all this talk of bar-b-quein done got me hungry!!

We Texans arent as smart as some, but we aint as dumb as most!!
